Sweet, buttery caramel with just the right hint of sea salt creates that irresistible cinema-style treat that's perfect for family film nights, parties, or simply curling up in front of the fire.

Whether you've been searching for how to make popcorn on an Aga, a traditional caramel popcorn recipe, an American popcorn recipe, or an easy homemade snack, this recipe ticks every box. Best of all, it's ready in under 30 minutes and is a fantastic way to make the most of your Aga's simmering plate.

Why make popcorn on an Aga?

One of the joys of owning an Aga is discovering just how many everyday recipes it makes easier. The gentle, consistent heat of the Aga simmering plate is ideal for popping corn evenly, while a Bake-O-Glide sheet means there's no need for oil, making preparation quick and washing up minimal.

It's a brilliant recipe to make with children, perfect for movie nights, and a fun way to introduce new Aga owners to the versatility of their cooker.

Whether you own a traditional Aga or a controllable ElectricKit Aga, this is one of those simple recipes you'll find yourself returning to time and time again.

Ingredients:

  • 225g butter
  • 170g corn kernels
  • 220 soft light brown sugar
  • ½ tsp of bicarbonate of soda
  • ¼ tsp salt (optional)

Method:

  1. Set your ElectricKit Aga simmering plate to number 4 (or use the simmering plate on a traditional Aga) and place the Bake-O-Glide on the hot plate. Scatter the kernels over the sheet concentrating on the middle.
  2. Close the lid for a few minutes until the corn has finished popping. Place the corn on a tray to cool.
  3. To make the caramel, gently melt the butter on a medium heat. Add the sugar and whisk well until fully combined.
  4. Increase the heat to a medium-high heat. Once the mixture begins to bubble, set a 4 minute timer and leave to bubble. Do not stir.
  5. After 4 minutes add the bicarbonate of soda and whisk again.
  6. Once combined, carefully pour over the popcorn and use a fork or tongs to gently coat the popcorn in the caramel. Once cooled, place in a bowl for sharing.
