Wood fired cook stoves allow you to cook on the hob, in the oven, or directly over embers. These models use fire to give that irreplaceable smoky flavour to your food while doing a wonderful job of heating your room in the process.
The Esse story
The Esse story begins in rather romantic style when James Smith, a Scotsman, emigrates to New York to pursue his fortune, completing his apprenticeship and then setting up a stoves business. His wife's health failing, he decides to head home to cooler climes, bringing the stoves business with him. Tragically, on one crossing, his ship is wrecked and legend tells us he was saved by floating in a tin bath tub. That same tub sits in the Esse museum today, a memento of the resilience and determination of this early stoves pioneer.
Fast forward to the 20th century and the Ashby family acquires Esse, moving production to Lancashire. Today Esse is owned and run by the 5th generation of that same family, proudly still rooted in its heritage but with a clear eye to the future, driving innovation and nurturing a company fit for the challenges of our times. Their continuing lasting legacy makes them the favourite of many modern day chefs and home cooks.
