Changing your Aga Lid Liners and Seals
Over time the inside of your Aga domes may begin to appear worn, tarnished or have been scratched or dented. You will also naturally see a build up of dirt and grease which can be difficult to clean. This doesn’t mean you need to replace your Aga lid entirely. You can simply replace the inside liner, which is easy to do yourself at home.
You can use a DIY replacement lid liner kit from Rural Ranges. There are two types of kit available, aluminium or stainless steel.
These kits contain new Aga dome liners, as well as replacement lid seals, so you can not only refresh the inside of your lids, but renew the seal for better heat retention in your hot plates.
Please note: Do not attempt to DIY pre 1974 rope style cords as these may contain asbestos. If in any doubt, seek advice first. For health and safety, we advise using a particle mask throughout the process – insulation may be dusty and can be an irritant to the airways. Use thick gardening or work gloves throughout the process – insulation contains glass fibres which can irritate the skin.

How to Change an Aga Dome Liner and Seal
Begin by covering your Aga top with a dust sheet to protect the enamel top plate as falling debris could damage or scratch the enamel.
Carefully pry the old seal away from the lid with a flathead screwdriver to fully remove it from the lid.
Locate the screws that hold the dome liner and retaining band in place. Make note of the type of screw you removed as you will need to replace the screws like for like from the DIY kit. Unscrew and carefully remove the old liner.
Once the old liner is removed, gently scrap away any residual adhesive ensuring the surface is clean.
If you are choosing to replace the lid insulation, carefully remove the old insulation. We would recommend wearing gloves as the insulation fibres can irritate the skin. Place your new insulation in the dome and tuck it behind the lid springs.
Take your replacement lid liner and a screw and align the liner with the top hole on the dome. Screw the lid liner in place and repeat for all screw holes. Take your time - it is a fiddly job and the liners are very easily scratched.
Once the lid liner has been replaced you can then fix the new lid rope in place. Take the replacement rope and gently stretch the seal so it is the same size as the dome.
Apply a consistent, generous line of adhesive, from the kit, around the rim, being careful not to get it on to the lid as this could damage the surface.
Find the seal join and place this at the base of the lid. Slowly and gently fix the seal in place around the rim, pressing firmly as you go. Take your time, as the rope can scratch the liner.
Wipe away any excess adhesive with a damp, soft cloth.
Close the lid - the pressure will help fix the seal in place securely while the adhesive dries.
